Split Lighting
Split lighting in a portrait is when you use light to make half of the subject's face appear light and the other half appear dark. It is created when you place the light source so it hits the subject at a 90 degree angle. There should be a line down the center of the subject's face between the light and dark side. This technique is used to make the photo more dramatic.
